Èze — The Eagle's Nest

Èze is a — a medieval settlement clinging to a rocky pinnacle 427 metres above the Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco. Its narrow stone passages, vaulted archways, and cascading bougainvillea feel like a film set, but this is no reconstruction — people have lived on this defensive peak since the Bronze Age. The views from the summit are quite simply the most spectacular on the Côte d'Azur.

When to Visit

• Spring and autumn: Perfect temperatures, manageable crowds
• Summer: Hot and very crowded — arrive before 10 AM
• Winter: Often clear skies; the Nietzsche Path is quiet and beautiful
