Riquewihr — The Wine Route Pearl
Riquewihr is quite possibly the most perfectly preserved medieval village in France — a single main street of half-timbered houses in sherbet colours, enclosed within 13th-century fortifications, surrounded by grand cru vineyards that climb the Vosges foothills. It has survived wars, plagues, and the Franco-German tug-of-war over Alsace essentially unchanged since the 16th century. Some claim it was the inspiration for the village in Disney's Beauty and the Beast — and walking in, you'll believe it.
